Confirmation at Grace
Our Youth Confirmation Class is a significant step in the spiritual journey of our young people.
Overview:
Offered every other year, this class is designed for students in grades 6-12 and begins in August, concluding in May. Through this program, students explore their faith, learn about the beliefs and practices of the United Methodist Church, and prepare to make a public commitment to Christ on Confirmation Sunday.
Class Structure & Purpose
The class meets weekly during the Sunday school hour throughout the school year. Each session is thoughtfully designed to deepen the students' understanding of their faith, covering essential topics such as the meaning of baptism, the history and beliefs of the United Methodist Church, and the responsibilities of church membership. The Confirmation process at Grace UMC aims to equip students with a deeper and more mature understanding of their faith. Our goal is that, by the end of the program, each confirmand will commit to living out their faith in everyday life.
Activities and Experiences
To complement the in-class learning, we offer extracurricular activities once a month. These activities include field trips to significant religious sites, service projects, and other events that reinforce the curriculum and provide experiential learning opportunities. Each activity is designed to help confirmands gain a broader perspective on their faith and how it applies to their daily lives.
Mentorship
A vital component of our Confirmation program is the mentorship relationship. At the beginning of the year, each student selects an adult mentor who will walk alongside them throughout the Confirmation journey. Mentors meet with their confirmands weekly, providing guidance, support, and a personal connection that significantly enhances the Confirmation experience. Studies by the Fuller Youth Institute highlight the mentor-confirmand relationship as one of the most impactful elements in the spiritual development of young people.
Eligibility and Application
All youth in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate in our Confirmation Class. Families interested in enrolling their children must complete an application, typically due two months before the first class session. This ensures that both the students and their families are prepared for the commitment that the Confirmation journey entails.
