Outside Our Walls

Are you looking for a way to make a positive impact in our community? Consider joining the many volunteers at Grace United Methodist Church who are dedicated to serving others. By lending a helping hand, you can be part of initiatives such as feeding the homeless, visiting the elderly, and supporting local families in need. Together, we can make a difference and spread kindness throughout our community.

Compassionate Hands began in 2012 when a group of Christians set out to ensure that nobody froze to death in Wilson County. By December 2013, a network of eight churches formed and used their locations to provide winter shelter to individuals experiencing homelessness. Now as a network of over 40 churches with hundreds of compassionate hands serving for God’s glory, we are blessed with opportunities to expand services and provide year-round support for neighbors in need.

Since the early years of Raise the Roof Academy, Grace United Methodist Church has been committed to supporting their work to develop high-quality education centers, provide community health programs, create income generating opportunities, and grow alongside local leaders. This multi-faceted, participatory approach builds local capacities and long-term relationships to create lasting, community-wide advancement, rather than a transactional supply of assistance.

Every day hundreds of kids come to school hungry right here in our community. By providing food to children of families affected by financial difficulties every week of the school year, the Wilson County Backpack Program provides food for children in schools that would otherwise go without. We support the students and families of W.A. Wright Elementary School.

You can get involved by helping with the monthly food pick-up, monthly food packing, and weekly food delivery.

Project Transformation is designed to address three unique challenges with one program: 1) how to meet the academic, physical, social-emotional, and spiritual needs of children, 2) how to provide meaningful ways for college-age young adults to explore ministry opportunities and develop as young principled leaders for the church and the world; and 3) how to help churches connect with their communities.

Children – College-age young adults – Churches. This is a win-win-win formula, but relationships are at the heart of everything we do. It is through relationships that communities are transformed.
